What activities to attend on September 15th in Guatemala

September 15 marks the Independence Day of Guatemala, a significant date for the country in which different activities take place in the city and in the interior. We list below the most important ones that reflect the fervor of this activity.

The parades

During this day you will enjoy in some of the streets of the city, Quetzaltenango and Antigua Guatemala, parades with school bands that have been prepared throughout the year to vibrate with these traditional marches filled with joy and music.

The school bands are accompanied by traditional clothing, traditional dances and you will find many families around the parades.

Torches

Throughout the country and mainly in the city, you will find multiple groups of students carrying torches that travel throughout the country.

Students run from their educational centers since the afternoon of September 14 to reach the Central Park, which is kilometer zero of the country, to collect the "patriotic fire" and take it back to their educational center to celebrate civic events and honor the country.

Ceremonies

In the Plaza de la ConstituciĆ³n or Parque Central, ceremonies are held before the most important political figures, which include the president's speech, the raising of the flag, the singing of the national anthem, and the parade of students with school bands.

Fireworks

Especially in the city, Antigua Guatemala and Quetzaltenango, you can enjoy a night of fireworks that will light up the streets wherever you are.

Concerts

Mainly in Quetzaltenango, concerts and artistic activities are held that bring together neighbors for a night with music groups.
